I quit coffee for my 31st birthday. It might have been the worst birthday present in the entire world, but my body is "apparently" revved up on cortisol, and pumping otherworldly amounts of caffeine into my body every day isn't exactly helping that. And while all of the blogs and Mayo Clinics of the world suggesting tapering off to avoid withdraw, I've tried that about 10 times in my life and it hasn't worked. So, I went cold turkey this week. No more coffee for me, because I'm actually addicted to it and can't manage my intake.
And yes, I had pretty terrible headaches this past week, was exceptionally drowsy most days, and even cried once. I might have even screamed into my pillow, "WHY DID LORELAI GET TO DRINK SO MUCH COFFEE AND I HAVE TO STOP?!" Because I'm a big baby about some things, coffee being one of them.
The thing that saved me?
I'm drinking herbal tea, which sucks, because I love the texture of coffee. And while I do take my tea with cream, thankyouverymuch, it just wasn't making me feel as special as my coffee made me feel. Yes, I look to a beverage for my self-esteem.
But when my milk frother and steamer arrived, I became obsessed. Not more boring tea. I got to have a special foaming peppermint vanilla latte. An orange cinnamon surprise. I found the thing that made replacing my coffee habit with something pleasant a reality. I even use almond milk creamer (I prefer heavy cream, but again, my body doesn't) and it makes THAT glorious!
I am now of the opinion that everyone who drinks a warm beverage daily needs one of these. How is this not a hosting staple yet? I would LOVE to present a foamy hot beverage to a friend. And now I can.
Do you froth your beverage? Let me know in the comments below!
